Album Lyrics:

Space.
(May)

I’m gonna make a little space
Around me
A very special place
Around me
No-one can come in.

Business.
(May)

Don’t judge me Mama
Don’t tell me that I’ve done wrong
It’s a hard business
It’s a hard business
To make it on your own

Don’t judge me Papa
If I can’t handle the things in my head
’Cos it’s a hard business
Such a hard business
Walking on the edge

I’ve got nothing and no-one in my life
So how can I lose again
Got my feet in muddy water
But I’m gonna find that road again

So I’ll be taking care of business
’Cos I know what I’m looking for
I’ve been working every hour God gives to Man
But I still see the same closed door…

I’ve got nothing but trouble in my life
But I feel I’ve got a lot to give
Every day I try to build a new world
But I’ve had no-one to build it with
I’ve been looking for a woman to share my hopes
And I know I ain’t a patch on you
And I’ve been thinking that a woman’s God’s gift to Man
Are you thinking the same way too…?

So don’t leave me Mama
Don’t make me go on alone
’Cos it’s a hard business
Yes it’s a hard business
Ooh

Don’t leave me Papa
When my belief in myself is gone
’Cos it’s a hard business
Such a hard business
Tell me it’s a hard business
Being on my own.

China Belle.
(May)

There’s a little lady livin’ down in old Beijing
She got everythin’ you need well you know what I mean
No it ain’t what you’re thinkin’ she ain’t love for sale
She’ll get you jumpin’ just for fun but there’s a sting in her tale
She’s a lover she’s a fighter she’s a red hot bit
You take her as you find her but you never can quit
She’s a pretty little lady called China Belle
She’s a Little Bit o’ Heaven and a Whole Lotta Hell

She gotta bad reputation but you won’t say no
You gonna need her sweet loving when yo go go go
She gotta diamond on her finger you can see it glisten
She got plenty conversation (don’t talk just listen)
She could be flat bed fakin’ but you never can tell
Got the body of an angel but you know darn well
She’s a pretty little lady called China Belle
She’s a Little Bit o’ Heaven and a Whole Lotta Hell

I was standin’ at the station on the Neck of Siam
I met a Guy from Abu Dhabi said “ you know who I am”
They call me Hard Nosed Harry who could never get hooked
But I fell in love with trouble after just one look
She’ll give you dirty loving honey make you feel real swell
But if you say you wanna stay she ain’t that kinda gel
I said you’re talkin’ ’bout a lady that I know darn well
She’s a Little Bit ’o Heaven and a – Whole Lotta Hell –

She’ll take you Nee-How walkin’ to a Chinese Ball
You’ll be singin’ and a-dancin’ underneath the Great Wall
But just when you’re strollin’ in the rain through Tiananmen Square
You turn around and look for China and she ain’t nowhere
She’s a dangerous habit she’s a red hot hit
You could get a better rabbit but you just can’t quit
She’s a pretty little little lady
She’s a pretty little little lady
She’s a pretty little little lady called China Belle
She’s a Little Bit o’ Heaven and a –
Whole Lotta Hell.

Why Don’t We Try Again.
(May)

After the storm there’s the dead of night
It seems there’s no way back for me
So little comfort in my lonely bed
To know
That it had to be

And now I miss you in so many ways
You know I miss you for so many
Lonely days
Oh…
Why don’t we try again

In the dark there’s a desert flower
It blooms where no-one ever sees
Our love was stronger than history
Our love will never cease to be
How can I live with you-as-a memory
You hold
The best part of me – oh –

And now I miss you in so many ways
You know I miss you for so many
Lonely days
Oh…
Why don’t we try again

No use me waiting by the telephone
You’re gone –
It ain’t gonna ring

And now I miss you in so many ways
You know I miss you for so many
Lonely lonely days and nights
I know you miss me for so many
Lonely days
Oh…
Why don’t we try again
Oh…
Why don’t we try again…

On My Way Up.
(May)

I’m on my way up (ooh!)
Can’t put me down (ooh!)
Business is tough (ooh!)
I ain’t gonna get pushed around
I’m on my way (ooh!)
Gonna take this town (ooh!)
It’s gonna be mine all mine
It’s my time – and –
I’m on my way (on my way up)
Straight to the top (I’m telling myself)
I’m telling myself (I’m totally sussed)
I’m puttin’ my name around (on my way up)
Ooh hoo – (on my way up)
Gotta get that rhythm
I got positivism to give ’em

I’m on my way through
Where I’m going to
You wouldn’t believe
But I’ll make it – I’m tellin’ you
I’m on A-roll
Gonna have it all
It’s gonna be fine so fine
Baby all of the time
I’m in control
I’m mighty bold
I’m lookin’ good
I’m quittin’ the neighbourhood
On My Way Up
Gotta get right with ’em
Got all of my life left for livin’

Nobody gonna tell me no
Nobody gonna stop me so
Everybody gonna see me grow
Nobody gonna hold me down
Gotta get to a better place
Gotta wake up – see your face
Gotta hold on – move on
o through that wall
It’s my life or it’s nothin’
Our life or it’s nothin’ at all
I’m on my way up…

I’m on my way
Yeah – gonna get it right
I’m telling myself
Gonna make it this time around
On My Way Up
Gonna get that rhythm baby
Gonna start that livin’ Babe
Got all my sights set on Heaven…

Ain’t no stopping me now…

Cyborg.
(May)

Welcome to my World ! ! !
Come play with me… I’m waiting…

I play their fantasy and
I live their pain
My heart and soul locked up in a
Cold steel frame
A strange creature’s crawling and it’s
Calling out my name
I don’t want to
I don’t need to
But I must fight again
(Let me out! – Set me free!)

Calling out for the Cyborg
Gonna rub you out
Time is up for the Cyborg
You’ll never get out
Bah! you’re nothing but a Cyborg

Cyborg, it’s your time

I’ll make it back there baby
Just you watch me try
(One more try – just one more try)
We’ll fly again
Into the deep blue sky
I feel a hunger baby
Cyborg feels no shame
Lord I have to
Lord I need to
Win this wicked game

Come Step to Me

Calling out for the Cyborg
Gonna rub you out
Time is up for the Cyborg
You’ll never get out
Calling out for the Cyborg
Gonna put your light out
Bah! you’re nothing but a Cyborg
You’ll never get out

I’ m gonna erase your file.

The Guv’nor.
(May)

Oh I ain’t greedy
But you gotta see my point of view
I was not born yesterday
Don’t you know I must ’ve learned a thing or two

But there’s a man on the loose baby
An’ he’s all bad
He’ll tan your hide and give you what you never had
They call him the Guv’nor (God bless the Guv’nor)
He’s trained to kill (God bless the Guv’nor)
Make way for the Guv’nor (make way for the Guv’nor)
Give yourself a thrill

Look at the Dude!
He’s got the World – he got it made
He got Attitude
And he got a fist – like a switchblade

And everyone in the City
Gotta play his game
I don’t wanna be a wannabe I wanna be it
Wanna be the Guv’nor (God bless the Guv’nor)
He’s Politically Incorrect (God bless the Guv’nor)
Give way give way to the Guv’nor
(Make way for the Guv’nor)
You gotta show some respect

Don’t bother lookin’ for a way to catch his ass
This man is cookin’ with a red-hot kind of gas
He’ll play them hits electrifyin’
Tear you to bits and leave you –
Cryin’ cryin’ cryin’ yeah…

So get ready for the showdown –
(Don’t lose your head)
If licks could kill we’d all be long long dead

On account of the Guv’nor…
God bless the Guv’nor
Make way make way
For the Guv’nor
You gotta see that man

Let’s see some respect now…

Wilderness.
(May)

Born in the time
Of the Changes
Where are you going
How will you fly
Is it for love or freedom
All your days have been
Waiting for life to catch you
Watching and waiting and seeking a sign
In the wilderness

Each of us learns
While we’re sleeping
Sleeping we know
Waking it goes
Fashion a dream of Heaven
Hold it close again
Only the Queen of Heaven
Watches us grow
Hearing us cry
Wondering and searching and losing our way
In the mire
In the Wilderness

Wilderness child
You gotta
Hold on
Wilderness child
You’re gonna find your way home
Wilderness Child
You gotta be strong
Wilderness Wilderness child

Wilderness Child
Let me see you
Stand in the light
Make me whole again.

Slow Down.
(Larry Williams)

Well –
Come on pretty baby won’t you walk with me
Come on pretty baby won’t you talk with me
Come on pretty baby give me one more chance
Try to save our romance

– Slow down –
Baby now you’re movin’ way too fast
You gotta gimme little lovin’
Gimme a little lovin’ – Ow!
If you want our love to last

Well I used to walk you home baby after school
Carry your books home too
But now you got the boyfriend down the street
Baby what you tryin’ to do?

Better slow down –
Baby now you’re movin’ way too fast
You gotta gimme little lovin’
Gimme a little lovin’ – Brrrr…
If you want our love to last

Well – you know that I love you tell the world I do
Come on pretty baby why can’t you be true
I need your lovin’ baby oh so bad
The best little woman that a man ever had

Slow down…

One Rainy Wish.
(Jimi Hendrix)

Gold and Rose – the colour of the dream I had
Not too long ago
Misty Blue and Lilac too
Never to grow old

There you were under the Tree of Song
Sleeping so peacefully
In your hand a flower played
Waiting there for me

I have never laid eyes on you
Not before this timeless day
But you woke and you – woh – smiled my name
You stole my heart away
You stole my heart away little girl – yeah
All right!

Gold and Rose – the colour of the dream I had
Not too long ago
Misty Blue and Lilac too
Never to grow old

Gold and Rose – the colour of the dream I had
Misty Blue and Lilac too
Gold and Rose – the colour of the dream I had
Misty Blue and Lilac too
Gold and Rose
Gold and Rose
Gold and Rose
It’s only a dream
I’d love to tell somebody about this dream
The sky was filled with a thousand stars
While the sun kissed the mountains blue
And eleven moons played across the Rainbows
Above me and you
Gold and Rose
Gold and Rose
The colour of the Velvet Wall
That surrounds us.

All The Way From Memphis.
(Ian Hunter)

Forgot my six-string razor
And hit the sky
Half way to Memphis
’Fore I realized

I rang the Information
My axe was cold
They said she rides a train
Down to Oriole

Well it’s a mighty long way down the dusty trail
And the sun burns hot on the cold steel rail
An’ I look like a bum an’ I crawl like a snail
All the way from Memphis

I got to Oriole – you know
It took a month
An’ there was my guitar
Electric Junk

Some dude says Rock ’n’ Rollers
You’re all the same
Man that’s your instrument
I felt so ashamed

Now it’s a mighty long way down Rock ’n’ Roll
Through the Bradford Cities and the Orioles
And you look like a star but you’re still on the Dole
All the way from Memphis

“Of course we weren’t always superstars
There was a time when we were just ordinary commoners just like you”

Thank you Mr Hoople

Well it’s a mighty long way down Rock ’n’ Roll
From the Liverpool Docks to the Hollywood Bowl
An’ you climb up the mountains an’ you fall down the holes
All the way from Memphis

Well it’s a mighty long way down Rock ’n’ Roll
An’ your name gets hot and your heart grows cold
An’ you gotta stay a young man – you can never get old
All the way from Memphis

It’s a mighty long way down Rock ’n’ Roll
From the Bradford Cities an’ the Orioles
An’ you look like a star but you’re still on parole
All the way from Memphis

All the way from Memphis –
All the way from Memphis…

Another World.
(May)

In another world
Under another sky
I see another story waiting
To be told…

And another You – wakes up –
With another Me
For that’s the way we’ve come to be
In Another World

In a different place
Way ’cross Time and Space
The door is open wide
Drawn to a different light
Maybe we’ll step inside

In Another World
We can show we care
You can be sure I’m waiting there –
In Another World

When the dice were cast
They laid a crazy path we follow to our graves
But I know in different world
We journey a different way

So we live but life
Isn’t what it seems
We’re only living in our dreams
In Another World

You can believe I’ll meet you here
In Another World.

Liner Notes:

Yes, it’s been 6 years –
a very long time to make my second solo album.
Of course there were a few distractions…
I would love to tell you that after “Back To The Light”,
I stepped into a luminous place where life all made sense.
But of course that is not the case.
I would love to say at least that I found the True Direction,
free my Spirit, and could tell you all about it,
but, alas, no – not even close… Hey! – I tried…
This album is the outpouring of a confused brain still trying
to make sense of EVERYTHING, and amidst
vast areas of despair, finding a few flashes of light.
These are what I would like to share with you.
Just one warning – in Another World,
things are never QUITE what they seem…
That’s it. We journey on. Hope you Enjoy.

Love,
Brian May
